Sunday Score!

We worked hard all week. Then, we got up at 5:30am. On our day off. To go to the Camberwell Markets. As you can see, it was quite dark, so I didn't really get an outfit photo, but I took the pants out for a spin.

I brought home:

And now my wall looks like this. Yay!

Postcards From The Stars...

I've been meaning to post these for ages, so here they are. It seems that Janet Wanger (unfortunate surname alert!) wrote to the stars asking for their pictures. These are what she received in reply. The post marks indicate that the were sent between November 14th, 1950 and April 11th, 1952.

Anna Blythe...look at those lips. Botox free. And look - you can buy bigger prints in various sizes!

Arlene Dahl...

Peggy Dow...too busy to sign her name.

I'm guessing this girl's name wasn't "Jeff' as signed. Maybe it's Alice Babs?

Marion Marshall - short and sweet.

Joyce Holden...keepin' it business.

Cute, right?

Well, isn't that nice?

It seems that the lovely Risa from Vintage Style and Design liked the pants...

The Pants Dance...

You may have noticed that I never wear pants. EVER. That is, until I found (and won) three pairs of deadstock 40's slacks on ebay.

They're wool garbadine, which makes them a bit itchy, but you can't have it all! They fit me better than any other modern styles I've tried - but I'm still wary. I'm not used to seeing myself in trousers. What do you think? Should these pants go public?

I also picked up these sweet blouses for a song - more photos later!

Have a good weekend!

Coffee and Pie, Oh My!

Garth and I were lucky enough to score an invite to “Pie Night,” an annual event held by our buddy Ben, at his hot rod shop, Rancho Deluxe.

I made key lime pie, and Garth made an apple pie. (See explanatory nerd symbols atop said pie.)

In attendance were the fabulous Talor and her fellow Kris, Ben and his lady Anita, her friend Gemma, and us. The first rule of pie night is “Don’t talk about Pie Night” so you never know what pies people will bring. We ended up with a stunning beef and guiness (Ben) a chicken and leek (Talor/Kris) and an amazing sweet potato and poppyseed (Gemma.)

Apple was the fruit of choice, with 3 variations on the theme and my lime effort. So much pie!

Ben’s place is amazing. He lives out the back of his warehouse/cafe and has a great eye for cool old automotive paraphernalia. And look at his table! He made it out of old school gymnasium flooring. Way cool. Thanks Ben. I wore my 30’s horse dress. Look! Little horses! And check out Talor’s awesome dress – a sweet little peach number. Nice.

Here are some more photos...

Cold Feet...

So I'm from Queensland, where at this time of the year, people are wearing shorts and singlets. However, I now live in Melbourne, where it gets COLD!

My question is: How do you girls from cooler climates still wear your vintage best when it's freezing?

Garth and I went out last night and I wore a trenchcoat over my dress and my deadstock nylon stockings, but my legs still got cold! I see lots of girls wearing black tights under their dresses, and while it looks good, I prefer a more traditional "colourless" leg look. Are there some amazingly thick flesh coloured tights that I don't know about? Do tell!

The "Lordleigh" Dress...

Making it's first blog appearance is this "Original Lordleigh California" dress. Do excuse the odd, sad looking pose - I only had a few seconds and had to prop my camera up in the kitchen on the stove to take the photos and they all came out blurry except this one!

I love old dress labels...

And look! It was sunny today!(I look very pale here. Silly camera.)

To work!

First Autumn Dress...

This dress still needs a few alterations, but I just felt like wearing it to work today...

It sort of fits the weather we're having now - rainy and getting cooler during the day.
As you can see, it's a big saggy around the neck, but a few darts should fix that. I returned the M.A.C. Brave Red lipstick in favour of my staple, Chilli. At least I tried something different, right?

And look - I added "tabs" at the top of the blog - anyone know how to make them all cool and customised? I want to hand draw the page titles to make them stand out a bit more...

Some of you may have already seen this, but I love it. And the drawings are so cute!

Hair Inspiration...

So, I basically already have this cut, but I want to practice setting it like this!

The Secret Garden...

On one of our walks, we discovered that the St Kilda Botanic Gardens is only two streets away from our house.

So, do excuse the image HEAVY post! The photos all turned out so well...
There's greenhouses, a conservatory, a lake, ducks and a rose garden. And lots of spots for Garth to practice his "jumps." (This is his current obsession, inspired by our friend Danny, who has since moved to Japan and spread the "the jump" to a whole new country!)

It's starting to get cooler here (hello Autumn!) so a warmer outfit was in order.I wore this cool late 50's/early 60's dress. It has three quater sleeves and matches my new handbag quite well!

Oh, and I'm trying to wear more hats, so I wore this neat brown felt one. Garth wore his H&M pea coat and felt quite dapper.

Our next plan is to organise a picnic with friends here. Should be fun!

p.s - I've just set up my own flickr. Feel free to browse!

Blue Eyes, Blue Skies...

Here's a dress I bought in Salt Lake City. The little cardigan is separate, but the peter pan collar is attached to it, not the dress. I wore it with my great aunt's pearl brooch and my new Mollini shoes. ($20 at a closing down sale!)I'm trying a new lipstick too - M.A.C's "Brave Red" Cremesheen...not too sure about it yet - it's so glossy compared to the mattes I usually wear.

Off to work!
